10th IFRM meeting again shows value of public-private sector dialogue

On 30-31 January 2017, The International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF), in cooperation with the FAO, organised the 10th International Feed Regulators Meeting (IFRM) in Atlanta, USA. At the event, feed industry representatives and feed regulatory officials from around the world discussed the most pertinent issues regarding feed safety.

Key issues discussed were feed safety risk management strategies, capacity development to implement the Codex Alimentarius requirements as regards feed safety and the Convergence Project, which aims to streamline technical requirements specific to feed additive/ingredient authorization across regions. Also a workshop on actions to reduce antimicrobial resistance was held.

IFIF Chairman Joel Newman highlighted the record number of participants that made a success of private-public sector cooperation that ensures continuous progress on feed and food safety, while meeting the global demands for food sustainability. Daniela Battaglia, Livestock Development Officer at the Animal Production and Health Division of the FAO, raised the important contributions of feed operators to make the livestock and food sectors more responsible and sustainable and to achieve other important goals such as food security, public health, and animal health and welfare. FEFAC is a member to IFIF and contributed to the event in Atlanta through its President Ruud Tijssens and its Secretary General Alexander Döring.
