IFIF announces release of global feed LCA guidelines for public consultation

The Global Feed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) guidelines developed by the FAO-led Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance Partnership (LEAP) have been made available for public review.

The LEAP aims to improve how the environmental impacts of the livestock industry are measured and assessed, which is an important step toward reducing the impact of livestock products on the environment. As founding members of LEAP, IFIF, FEFAC and AIFA have expressed their appraisal for the first feed-specific LCA guidelines, which has taken the main recommendations from the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) guidelines developed by the European Commission into account.

The public review of the feed guidelines begins today and comments are welcome from interested parties until 31 July 2014. The draft guidelines can be accessed on the LEAP website http://www.fao.org/partnerships/leap/public-review/en/
