IFIF-FAO “Feed Manual” featured in WTO STDF publication on safe trade solutions

A new publication by the WTO Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) features 25 stories showing how good practice in food safety, animal and plant health has helped small-scale farmers and processors in developing countries trade more easily and improve their livelihoods.

On the pages 24-25 of “Driving safe trade solutions worldwide”, the IFIF-FAO Manual for Good Practices for the Feed Industry is featured as one of the success stories. The “Feed Manual” was the result of a successful collaboration of IFIF with the FAO in order to champion the safe production and supply of animal feed globally, bringing together the feed industry, livestock producers and government agencies, particularly across Africa and Latin America.

The Feed Manual sets out practical guidelines for producers and industry to help meet the Codex code of practice and supports higher feed and food safety standards in developing economies. IFIF and FAO have also run targeted workshops and hands-on training for feed millers, producers and feed industries in 15 countries worldwide. The Manual continues to be a relevant document and forms the basis of the IFIF capacity development training “Train the Trainer”, which has successfully been run in Nigeria and Tanzania, and will be held in Ghana in July 2018.
